International studies on BP spectrum

• In three community studies (Zurich, EDSP and

NCS-R) DSM-IV Major Depressive Disorder

(MDD) was shown to be heterogeneous (family

history, course, comorbidity)

• The three studies suggest that about half of all

cases with mood disorders probably have

bipolar disorders
